Ada+Adam / / Engagement Photography Session / / Fayetteville, Arkansas

One of our favorite things are little getaways to Northwest Arkansas, especially when it involves getting to photograph a couple love-birds like Ada+Adam! So we had planned to meet these two sweethearts and shoot in the rain as the weather was calling for inclement weather all afternoon. But as soon as our 'shoot started, the sun came out and the sky cleared and there was no rain to be had. So we did what any self respecting photographers would do and faked it :) How could you not with a cool umbrella like that! We spent some time exploring the Fayetteville square and all it has to offer and this is what we came up with :) Enjoy a few of our favorite frames from Ada+Adam's Engagement 'Shoot...

Miranda+Bart / / Engagement Session / / Kansas City Photographer

We headed up to Kansas City for Miranda & Bart's Engagement Session. We all took in a sweet sunset out at The Bowery in Spring Hill! We love it when we get to photograph our friends. These two are soooo sweet and we can't wait for the wedding:)

Here's about 30 or so of our favorite frames from Miranda & Bart's Engagement Session!

Kaylee+Cole / / Wedding / / Joplin

Kaylee and Cole got married at the Methodist Church in Joplin, Missouri. This wedding just couldn't have been any better! I arrived at the church to get a few shots of Kaylee getting her makeup done, snagged a few shots of the dress, shoes, details and such :) Then we went on a little church tour, exploring the grounds for a few photo sessions in different places. I just love the backdrop that a big stone building provides, and the sanctuary with that giant organ :) After the ceremony, we headed downtown with the father of the bride's classic Mercedes for a portrait session with the Bride and Groom. We explored the city streets and a back alley and these two were pros in their first photo sesh' as husband and wife!  Once we hit the Elks Lodge for the reception, Kaylee and her Mom, Dad, and Brother knew just how to get the party started! They headed straight for the dance floor and started belting out Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing' ! It was amazing. I think this crew definitely knows how to have a little fun! A few heart felt speeches, some feverish dancing, and one big fireworks show later, and this wedding went down as one for the ages!

Here are just a few of my favorites from Kaylee and Coles Wedding Day! Enjoy...

The Smiths / / Amadeus Ranch / / Wedding / / Seneca, Missouri

There is nothing better than a Spring wedding! Especially after a long winter off season and its 70 degrees outside. We talked about the weather quite often at this wedding:) Getting married in the spring, you just never know what you're going to get. As Southwest Missouri spring weddings go, this one was an absolute dream. No one had to wear a coat in March, and rain wasn't even a thought, and those are some BIG WINS!

Miranda and Kaleb are a pretty special couple and their wedding was just perfect. Honestly it wouldn't have mattered a bit if the weather was bad! This couple was so happy and in love and absolutely radiant, that I don't think there was anything putting a damper on their day. It's always such a treat to get to meet such wonderful people and document their perfect wedding day in a way that they can hopefully relive again and again.

We have shot at Amadeus Ranch quite a few times now and it just never disappoints. Beautiful natural light coming in on both ends of the venue provides some awesome opportunity for indoor photo spots, and the venue overlooks a gorgeous valley with picturesque sunsets! Not to mention, this might be the best venue around for quickly converting an outdoor wedding to indoor if the weather does take a turn for the worse.

Below are just a few of our favorites from Miranda and Kaleb's wedding day! Enjoy:)

Flea Market Find Vintage Cameras

One of my favorite things to do is shop the local flea markets for sweet vintage collectables. There are lots of cool things I'm always looking for, but one of the main ones is vintage cameras. Some are just for decoration and some go straight into my lineup for general use.  I haven't been collecting long, so my collection is still pretty small. I thought it would be cool to share some of my flea market finds with y'all so I took to the book shelves of the study in my home for a photoshoot of inanimate objects. Hope you enjoy!

CANON AE-1 - $150

This is my most recently acquired treasure. I've been on the hunt for one of these beauties for a little while now. Haven't had much of chance to put it to good use, but definitely looking forward to having some fun with this one. The Canon AE-1 is a 35 mm SLR, first introduced in 1976 and remained in production until 1984, which when you think about it is a really long time for a single model to be produced. I feel like that says a lot about the quality and popularity of this classic camera. This camera was the first SLR to come equipped with a microprocessor and during it's years in production, sold over a million units.

SUPER 8 MOVIE CAMERA

Every serious collector has to have one of these gems in their collection. The iconic Super 8 Movie Camera was first manufactured by Kodak in 1965 and remains one of the most popular shelf sitters in a ll the land. The one I found still had its original Sears Instruction Manual and fancy leather carrying case. It's popularity and production continued into the 1970's when more modern versions of video cameras started to come along.

POLAROID SX-70 - $125

This camera might be my absolute favorite. It is an incredible feat of engineering, being fully collapsible which makes for easy transport and most people don't even know what they're looking at when it is collapsed form. It then transforms into a camera that dispenses it's prints in real-time:) Polaroid phased out it's film production in late 2005 rendering many of their products virtually useless. That is until The Impossible Project came along and reinvigorated Polaroids cult following with new film for it's products. This camera was in production from 1972 - 1980.

BELL & HOWELL 16 MM MAGAZINE CAMERA - $35.00

This camera is a mid-century shelf sitter (non-working) first released in the 1950's. It  has an all metal body with a leatherette wrapping. This would have been used for shooting video and did not take batteries, but uses a windup spring motor mechanism instead.

POLAROID A80 Land Camera - $60

This camera was a gift from my mom so it is extra special and adds value for sure! It is still a fairly new member of the collection and a ton of information isn't readily available online so I can only assume they only made 1 and it is the holy grail of cameras, worth over 2 million dollars. Full disclosure, I'm operating on zero factual knowledge. Just a hunch:)

YASHICA A - $55

The Yashica A Medium Format Camera was first introduced in 1959. Shutter speed and aperture are controlled with fancy dials and levers on the sides of the camera. This is about as simple as cameras get. Simple is good:)

Yashica A Medium Format Camera

KODAK BROWNIE STARLET CAMERA - $20

The 'Brownie' was a simple plastic point and shoot camera first introduced by Kodak in 1956. This is the smallest camera in my collection. It is just a cute little 127 format camera. These usually aren't too expensive, so if you run across one, grab it!

KODAK INSTAMATIC 104 - $20

This camera is one of Kodak's greatest success stories for the 126 film cartridge. Kodak alone sold 60 million of it's instamatic models. Most of those sales came in the 1960's and 70's

Jaycee+Blake / / Wedding / / Miami, Oklahoma

Jaycee and Blake's Wedding was on New Year's Eve at the First Christian Church in Oklahoma. I couldn't think of a more perfect way to ring in the new year than with a beautiful wedding with a sweet couple like Jaycee and Blake. It was so good to see how many people came to see these two tie the knot on the last day of the year.

Blake is a United States Marine stationed in California, so finding some time off for a wedding didn't come easy. Soon he will begin his deployment away from his beautiful bride so these two are enjoying every second together, so happy and in love, as you can undoubtedly see from their wedding album:)

Blake saw his Bride for the first time as the church doors opened, and she began to come down the aisle with her father.

Here are just a few of my favorites from Jaycee and Blake's Wedding Day :) Enjoy!

Kim+Taylor [Wedding] Buhler, Kansas

Today I am thankful for sweet couples like these two! Kim & Taylor got married this October in Buhler, Kansas (near Hutchinson). This day was an absolute dream. The girls were just about finished getting ready when I arrived. I snapped a few pics in the bridal suite and shortly  after we headed out for the Bride & Groom's first look under the trees. The couple met with a long embrace and each fought back the tears as they saw each other for the first time. We explored the woods around their ceremony site for pictures of the happy couple and their bridal party. The wedding ceremony was absolutely gorgeous and took place at mid day outdoor under the trees. Guests lined the wooden benches as they waited to see Kim for the first time! Taylor again fought back the tears in seeing his stunning bride come down the aisle. As she met him, the two along with all their wedding guests opened the wedding with a beautiful hymn, recited their vows, and sealed it with a kiss!

Liz+Jace [Wedding] Civil War Ranch in Carthage, Missouri

Liz and Jace got married in September 2016 at the Civil War Ranch in Carthage, Missouri. It was the perfect venue for a rustic country wedding. The main barn had a perfect loft for bridal portraits with the natural light leaking in through the windows. We took advantage of just about everything the Civil War Ranch had to offer for pictures, and of course it didn't disappoint! Here are just a few of our favorites from Liz & Jace's Wedding Day!

Paige+Shawn [Wedding] Episcopal Church in Independence, Kansas

Paige and Shawn got married this September at the beautiful Episcopal Church in Independence, Kansas. Shawn was dashing as ever in his blue suit and Paige stunned in her absolutely gorgeous vintage white wedding gown. The two of them brought a super-fun group of bridesmaids and groomsmen, and commuted between the wedding and reception in a massive 'fun-mobile' camper motor home. It was the perfect segway from wedding to party time at the reception after a long day of pictures. We had such a fun time hanging out and photographing this group! Here are just a few of our favorites from Paige and Shawn's Wedding Day.

Erica+Cody [Engagement] Roaring River State Park

Erica and Cody had their engagement pictures done at Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Missouri. We had to wait and find a break in the rain but everything worked out and I'm absolutely loving the pics of this happy couple! Roaring River provided the perfect backdrop for an engagement shoot and especially since it was the site of where Cody proposed:) Here are just a few of my favorite pics from their engagement sesh'....happy viewing!

There were so many wonderful backdrops and landscapes for this beautiful couple to showcase their love! Here are a few of our favorites so far...

Jessica+Tyler [Engagement Photos]

These two were sweet-hearts were amazing! They were so eager to try my crazy ideas like trekking into the woods and doing some fireworks, AND they brought a classic car! Huge bonus! They have been together for TEN YEARS, and their love really shines through in their engagement album. We can't wait for Round II of pictures at their wedding. We are just getting into these edits, but here are a few of our favorites (so far) from Jessica and Tyler's Engagement Portraits....

5 Reasons to Have an 85 mm Lens!

My 85 mm Canon lens has proven to be my favorite over the years for a number of reasons. While not nearly the most versatile, it has always been the most reliable in terms of wow factor, and churning out 'portfolio worthy' images. If you are into portraits, you must own an 85 mm! One awesome factor not mentioned below is that Canon offers a couple different pricing options for it's 85 mm lineup. If you don't want to fork over the big bucks for it's 'L' quality 85 (shown below), they do offer a more affordable option around $300.

1. Proximity - This lens is not too short, and not too long, meaning it doesn't require you to get to close or far away from your subject. Of course this is only important relative to the space you are shooting in (indoors).

2. Lack of Distortion - When using a prime lens like an 85 mm, the proportions of your subject will be nearly exact, unlike when using a wide angle which adds some distortion to your portraits.

3. Bokeh - This is the effect giving you those dreamy blurry backgrounds. Helps you isolate your subject, as well as work in low light.

4. Perspective - You don't have to worry as much about the composition of your shot with the 85 because it keeps the focus on your subject. Unlike a wide angle lens where often times the background is brought into the shot.

5. Versatility - An 85 mm doesn't have to be for just portraits. It can be used in a variety of situations where you don't want/need to get close to your subject.
